She grew up in Hartville and graduated from Lake Local High School in Uniontown. Amanda went on to attend Grace College and Seminary in Winona Lake, Indiana. Before starting Compassion Delivered, she worked in school safety for a company in Hudson, Ohio. She and her husband have two daughters Makayla (16) and Lillian (10) and a cat named Oliver.

Amanda said, “Compassion Delivered is a 501c3 non-profit, was founded in January of 2017, after my husband, Daniel, a culinary trained chef and I recognized a need in our community that we wanted to see met.”

She continued, “Not only do we provide healthy fresh meals each week, we also have the chance to spread kindness. Our delivery bags are decorated by children throughout our community. They also help us write encouragement cards that we pass along to our meal recipients. These two items can also change someone’s mood and lift spirits, it’s a vital part of what we do. We truly believe that an act of kindness, such as a meal can give hope and strength.”

Compassion Delivered hits milestone providing meals for families of seriously ill

Amanda and Daniel Anschutz began making free meals for people coping with life-threatening or terminal illnesses in 2017. They are about to make and deliver their 10,000th meal. The couple and a group of volunteers prepare the meals in the kitchen at Evermore Community Church in Lake Township.

LAKE TWP. – Plastics trays, some containing broccoli and others with zucchini, cover the counter in the kitchen at Evermore Community Church.

At a preparation table, chef Daniel Anschutz assembles slices of eggplant, tomato and mozzarella into servings of eggplant Napoleon. It’s one of the meals that will go to families helped by Compassion Delivered, a nonprofit started by Daniel and his wife Amanda in 2017.

In just over four years, the Anschutzes and a contingency of volunteers have prepared 10,000 meals for Stark County residents dealing with chronic, life-threatening or terminal illnesses.

During that stretch Compassion Delivered has helped more than 180 families. An average of 25 to 30 clients are getting free meals each week.

The nonprofit came about after Daniel and Amanda married in 2015. Daniel learned that Amanda was making a monthly donation to Project Angel Heart, a nonprofit program in Denver that provided meals for people dealing with illness. Amanda supported the organization because a cousin worked there.

“Plan B and a good sense of humor.” This advice was given to me when I was still in high school, getting ready to start my first job at Freda’s Hallmark in Hartville. My mom, an educator for over 50 years, told me this as a reminder that there will be days I will want to throw in the towel and walk away, but those are the days that I need in my life to make me a better person and inspire me to press on. I still use this phrase today—it has reminde d me to not always take certain things in my career so seriously.

Finish. Finish everything that you’ve been given. Don’t let yourself be complacent and unwilling to learn. Once you stop, it will be so much harder to start again. If you surround yourself with individuals who will encourage, stretch and guide you, then you will be grateful for their influence.

The origin and the mission of Compassion Delivered is expressed concisely in a statement by one of its founders.

“Our organization was formed because of recognizing a need in our community,” said Amanda Anschutz, who, with her husband, Daniel, founded in 2017 a nonprofit organization to reach out arms of assistance to those around the couple who are suffering. “We provide nutritional meals to people coping with life-threatening illnesses and diseases.”

Still, in a very real sense, this sincere desire to help others through a time of misfortune was born years ago inside the heart of Amanda’s grandfather—the “gentle giant,” she said, “who always made everyone he encountered feel special.”

“He always asked people two questions: ‘What do you need?’ and ‘If you died today, where would you spend eternity?’ ” said Anschutz of her grandfather, who passed away in 1999. “He was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s disease in 1996, but that desire to help others stayed with him. He continued to care for people even when he himself was going through hard times.”

New program delivers meals to seriously ill in Stark County

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) – A new organization in Stark County called Compassion Delivered has been piloting a program that will deliver nutritious meals to people fighting life-threatening illnesses.

Amanda Anschutz started Compassion Delivered with her husband Daniel, who is a chef.

Anschutz remembers her grandmother taking care of her grandfather when he had Lou Gehrig’s disease, or ALS, so many years ago, but many are by themselves with no one to care for them.

“They might have lost their job. They might not have the support, also, realize very quickly that they don’t have the energy to stand in front of the stove and cook a meal on a regular basis,” said Anschutz.

Every week, Daniel prepares three complete dinners for each of the sick people the program serves.

Only a handful of people are receiving the meals right now because the couple is testing out how the program will be run, but over 2,000 sick people who could benefit from Compassion Delivered have been identified by area hospitals, according to the couple.

Each meal is delivered in a paper bag decorated by a local child. The people who donated the money for the meal are mentioned on the cover of the meal’s packaging so that the person receiving the meal knows that people care about them.

North Cantonians help seriously ill individuals by delivering meals

Amanda Anschutz and her husband Daniel have reached out to the community and the community has welcomed them.

In January, the couple started Compassion Delivered, a nonprofit organization that provides medically tailored meals to people with serious illnesses.

“We are a 501(c)(3) organization. We provide nutritional meals to people coping with chronic, life-threatening illnesses and diseases here in our community at no cost.” said Amanda Anschutz of North Canton. “My husband and I truly believe that people should not have to choose between the medical care they need or suffer from the malnutrition and hunger caused by their illnesses or diseases. We recognize that eating healthy is expensive and when you are facing health issues, it’s usually not a top priority, so we are grateful to be able to provide these meals at no cost.”

The meals are funded through individual donations, foundations and corporations, said Anschutz. Deliveries are made on Fridays. Right now, the program is in its infancy stage, but the Anschutzes are looking forward to growing the program in 2018.
