STORY OF THE LADLE AND HEART

In the fall of 2016 while Daniel and Amanda were working on the name of the organization, they attended a Sunday morning service where their pastor was doing a message on giving. But it wasn’t the financial giving that we think about, but the giving of our time. That morning he showed a video that had a gentleman who was the gardener for a very wealthy businessman. The Gardener would have brief conversations with the man and share that he volunteered at the local shelter and asked the wealthy businessman to join him sometime. The wealthy businessman too busy to hear what he was really saying would saying and told him he can write a check. Though that is important, the Gardener said you really do need to see it, but each time he asked the businessman was too busy.

Eventually one day when the Gardener showed up to work, he noticed that the businessman was upset, there had been some stressful situations and life just wasn’t going as he had planned it. The gardener again offered for him to volunteer with him, this time the businessman said he would go.

When they arrived at the shelter the businessman quickly noticed how run down the building was, how much the room needed updated, but what he was missing was the conversations people had around the table, the smiles and laughter. The gardener pulled the businessman into washing dishes and as they stood there, the gardener held up a spoon and a ladle. He asked the businessman if he knew the difference. The businessman replied that he didn’t.

The gardener said with a spoon you serve yourself, but with a ladle you serve many. And at that point Daniel looked at Amanda and said that is going to be the symbol of our organization. Shortly after that the name was chosen and the organization was formed.

In January of 2022, the ladle and heart became a registered trademark with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
